It is going to take all of us doing little things every day to set the example. I am convinced that this country is on the wrong path. I am also convinced that the change is going to HAVE to come from the bottom up. So my feeble contribution (other than smiling at everyone I meet) has been to utilize Amtrak to get back and forth between my jobsite and home. It has cut over 400 miles a week off my driving and according to my bride has greatly improved my disposition ;-)

I was actually planning on doing something like this anyway. I've been cable-less for over 9 years now, and relatively recently gave up the rabbit ears too. But, I could be better about buying local, and I'd love to get my bikes out and into the world a little bit more. I have a few things more that I'm mulling over, but all of your ideas sound great, and I'm looking forward to starting them.

I bet you'll be surprised at how little you miss your TV. We haven't had one for 8 years and when we watch it now it feels like we're being repeatedly bludgeoned. The number of truck ads is staggering!

I confess that we do have NetFlix, and watch things on the laptop or project them like a real movie theater on our big white wall. But many movies are art, and the best TV shows make it on to NetFlix so I don't think we've lost anything by giving up the TV. And we've gained so much time!
